Keeping Your Dog Safe on UTV Rides
UTVs can be perfect workhorses, but they’re also fun to take off-roading—especially if you have a four-legged friend to keep you company! We here at Gina’s Motorsports of Monee want to help you enjoy UTV rides with your dog, so we’ve put together some tips on keeping your dog safe on your next UTV trip, below. To learn more, or to see the UTVs we have for sale, contact our store in Monee, Illinois, today!
Transportation
First off, no matter how well-trained your dog is, the safest way for them to ride a UTV is in a crate. Even if they wouldn’t jump out or interfere with your controls, a bump could send them flying. Make sure to use tie-downs to secure the crate to your UTV and take the weather into account—if it’s going to be cold, cover the crate to help insulate your pup. If it’s going to be hot, make sure there’s both shade and ventilation.
Also make sure to get your dog used to the crate before you ride. Being crated can make dogs anxious, and you want them to enjoy themselves too!
Packing
Also remember that your dog will need a few things to stay safe and comfortable. A collapsible water bowl, first aid kit with dog-friendly ointments, and a brush to get stickers out of fur are a good start. An LED collar light can also help with low-light visibility, and if you’re staying out a while, dog food and a bed are necessities.
